Tony Horton on the Today Show

12 years 11 months ago
Tony Horton, my favorite fitness instructor, was on the Today Show yesterday May 18th, 2011. Tony only had around 3 minutes of air time with Kathie Lee and Hoda. He is entertaining as usual! Tony shows the girls a few exercises from P90X. The video below is hosted on Hulu. Enjoy!

Tony Horton is the Master of Motivation behind P90X, the #1 fitness infomercial in America. If you want to improve your health, physique, and lifestyle, then you want Tony.

Hurt Shoulder during pull-ups

12 years 11 months ago
On Monday I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder during wide pull-ups. I immediately stopped and tried continuing with the other Chest and Back workouts but still felt the pain. So... until my shoulder heals I am changing the P90X routine to the following:

Monday: P90 Cardio 3-4 (no yoga or arms), ARX

Tuesday: P90X Plyo
Wednesday: P90 Cardio 3-4 (no yoga or arms), ARX
Thursday: P90 Cardio 3-4 (no yoga or arms)
Friday: P90X Legs and Back (minus the back), ARX
Saturday: P90 Cardio 3-4 (no yoga or arms)

A LOT of cardio. It's better than just stopping completely. When I start doing shoulder exercises again, I'll do Shoulder Dislocates before working out. My shoulders are not very flexible (sitting hunched over a computer for half your life can do that). The best advice I've found is to do what doesn't hurt when you have an injury.

The Super Food Called Shakeology

12 years 11 months ago
Oprah has an in depth article about Shakeology.
O's editor in chief travels to Peru to experience a trove of life-giving superfoods that just might revolutionize your view of nutrition. Around 4 o'clock on any given morning, Darin Olien will walk into his Malibu, California, kitchen and make himself a smoothie. This will not be an ordinary drink. The other day, for example, he tossed the following into his blender: coconut water, fermented sprouted brown rice, maca, aloe vera juice, barley grass powder, kamut juice powder, almond butter, camu camu, avocado, goji, lucuma powder, noni juice, cacao nibs, MSM, maqui, bee pollen, sacha inchi oil, omega-3-DHA/EPA oil, Hawaiian deepwater salt, chia seeds, nopal, goat yogurt, luo han guo, and a powder called Shakeology.Read more at Fit Corner Network...

Slow Carb Chicken Chili

12 years 11 months ago
This is a Slow Carb Chicken Chili that I modified for P90X. It's approximately a 50/30/20 meal; 50% protein, 30% carbs, 20% fat and is a good choice for Phase 1 "Fat Shredder" of P90X.

I really like this recipe and it'll be one of my primary meals throughout P90X.

Read more about the recipe and how to make it at Fit Corner Network: Slow Carb Chicken Chili

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups chopped or diced cooked chicken
  • 1.5 cans great northern beans (drained)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 6 cups chicken stock or broth (low sodium fat free)
  • 8 tbsp of chopped green chilies
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 5 tsp minced garlic

P90 Completed, P90X starts today!

12 years 11 months ago
I just completed a round of P90. Total weight lost is approximately 14.4 pounds! I'll start P90X today with the Slow Carb diet.

What is “Slow-Carb”?

The Slow-carb diet consists of foods that have a low-glycemic index, such as Shakeology. The glycemic index (GI) factor is a ranking of foods based on their overall effect on blood sugar levels.

How does it work?

With low-glycemic foods your body will break them down slower. This results in stable blood sugar levels (no spikes as there is with white breads and sugary foods). The idea behind the diet is to not count calories and to keep meals simple (but to eat more protein laden foods as they are less calorie dense). You can lose pounds on this diet is 30 days without exercise.

Status update, slow carb, and P90X

I am nearing the end of P90 and my P90X low carb diet. I have one week left which will be used as a recovery week.
  • Monday - P90 Phase 1-2 Sculpt
  • Tuesday - P90 Phase 1-2 Cardio
  • Wednesday - P90X Stretch X
  • Thursday - P90 Phase 1-2 Cardio
  • Friday - P90 Phase 1-2 Cardio
The idea is to give my muscles time to heal before P90X. The reason for sculpt on Monday is to get a baseline for calories burned in P90 (I never tracked Phase 1-2).

For P90X I'll be following Phase 1 of the nutrition plan while using a Slow Carb approach. I haven't tried this before, but I hope to maintain my weekly 1 to 1.5 lb / week loss.

Keep pushing play!
